A carebears view of Warhammer Online (Preview Weekend)

So why a carebears view you ask? Well, my history in MMO gaming is mainly from a PvE perspective. I am one of those gamers that Ryan often used to spit bile at in MoG. I wouldnt say I hate PvP, I used to love playing Team Fortress but I always felt the PvP in mmo's was heavily… Continue

The 5 games that kept me gaming (aka nostalgic games for old gits)

We all ended up here on GAX because of one thing, we love gaming. Tastes amongst this small community differ a fair amount and thats a healthy aspect of this small gaming asylum. I am sure if you read this list of games and you are under 30, then most likely your list will be very different, feel free to share what inspired you to buy the next overhyped piece of garbage in the hope it was the next great game. Anyway, as I said, these games ar… Continue

Tabula Rasa (First impressions)

Not a proper review, just first impressions. I'm sure all those of us who have been through our share of MMO's know that first impressions of a game are often misleading. New MMO's are nearly always fun until you hit that level where you suddenly get the feeling that the developers either rushed the content or there i… Continue

My Wii has gone, curious now about Xbox 360 vs PS3

Bought a Wii a few months back, tried out a few different games, Zelda, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Galaxy and a few others. It was fun briefly but with the exception of Resident Evil 4, all the games were unbearably cute and intensely annoying. I know, I know, its a nintendo, I should have expected it and I'm sure I probably bought the wrong games but I decided to sell it, while theres still a shortage (made a nice profit!) and now I'm wondering about the 360 and the PS3 and the impending a…

Forever soiled?

I have a question for you, whoever you are thats wandered here by mistake to read this.....

It's a question that has been on my mind for a long time regarding online games. The question is this.....Is it possible to ever recapture that feeling that you got when you were first hooked by whichever MMO you played first?

I remember the first time I played Everquest, playing a wood elf lemming in the suicidal city of Kelethin. Getting lost in the forest, wondering what the he…

One of my main beliefs in life is that if someone has money to be made from you, trust nothing they say. If a company is developing a truly terrible game, they have even more reason to hype it. They know once it is released, it will be torn to pieces by reviewers so they have to recoup their money by pre-orders.

There is always the very slim possibility that they are genuinely excited about the product because its a good one but more often than not (*cough* Vanguard *cough*), its a piece of crap. I especially hate the "previews" of games that magazines do, a carefully designed small area of a game that the developers herd the game press into so they can crank up the hype machine via previews that say how awesome the game looks.

I would love to think that the days of the HypeMachine™ are coming to a close. Several companies have been badly burned over the last two years because of releasing horrid games that were nothing like they advertised.

But then again, some things never change, and some people never learn.
