How far does the Meta game go?
From reading the
CAOD (Corporation, Alliance, and Organization Forum) on EVE-Online's Website, it appears as if CCP has been unbanning old time posters. Previously, the system for forum ban's made it almost inevitable that long-time, constant posters would end up banned, due the system of steadily increasing penalities, which ended with an apparently life-time ban. Why is this unbanning news? Read on.
As a result of this system, many long time posters went to a 3rd party forum,
Scrapheap Challenge. However popular that forum became though, it would always be 2nd fiddle to EVE-O. However, lately we have seen GoonSwam (love them or hate them) take the forums in a new direction.
Thread after
thread reading like a 'joke' from
Something Awful's front page. Now, were these unbannings of '
veteran' and '
respected' posters an attempt by CCP to bring back some of the old feel to the forums? Or just a coincidence?
Now, I am no fan of BoB, and I know the meta game aspect of EVE is a vital and important part, but how far is to far? Do you think CCP are right to 'step in' at this type of Meta gaming? Or does it go beyond Meta gaming and hurt the game itself enough to warrant this?
Un-doing the bannanation (yes, word!), as well as trying to counter-act the goonish plague.
Hell if I know... perhaps if we had some CCP employees on the site *cough* they could add some insight.
