Why is Blizzard so efficient at things and others are not?

I paid $24.95 to move my MAIN Lord of the Rings Online character to the Firefoot server this weekend.

And I am still waiting.

How hard can this be? Does someone have to come into the office to drag and drop my CHARACTER.DAT file to the new server?

Compare this to the system that Blizzard has in place. I go online, I pay, I wait 15 minutes, I get an email I click a link. This system was tested by Blizzard a long time ago before they put it in. As of Sunday I have not gotten a single email from Turbine regarding the status of my transfer other than: "check our knowledge database."

I know it is a minor thing, but it just goes to show how spoiled we have become with World of Warcrafts options and services. Name changes, moves and more all of it so automated we only have to wait minutes, if not hours.

This weekend has been slow, although in the Warhammer Online beta I tried a CRITICAL PVP feature that works, and really didn't work in Age of Conan. I will let my readers guess what it was. It worked, and it was freaking awesome. I even leveled my beta character I was having so much fun.

In Lord of the Rings Online, I have been afraid to log in my Captain for fear that it would mess up her transfer. Apparently I have nothing to fear because it takes days to move one in that game. At any rate I watched my brother's 50 Champion run a instance in the high end of the game and not only was it gorgeous, it looked like a ton of fun. I really need to try and level before Warhammer Online goes live so I can say goodbye to Middle Earth in style.

... its still the weekend..... or did I enter a time warp?

I could understand getting upset over several days.. but really... assuming you put in for your transfer yesterday morning.... a little over a day wait isn't worth getting your panties in a bundle over..... eh?

Nope used to having it done with clicky links. I am simply wondering why it takes so long compared to Blizzards system. And actually I did miss an entire day I could have been in the new guild, I think mainly its the part about not being to log my character in or not, or how the whole process is going to work that is frustrating

I can only imagine how pissed off you are going to be when you discover it takes them about three business days to turn this around, they don't work on this at the weekend.

Given there are no alternatives for the service, Turbine could really charge what they want and take as long as they feel like. You just need to plan a transfer around times you won't be playing. At least they are pretty up front in terms of how long it takes.

Given this game has already been out a year, I don't think a day or two is going to cause any spectacular event to be missed. You can always roll an alt.

I have two friends who transferred their characters to my server on LOTRO. It took about two business days for each. One gal put in her transfer on a Sunday, so it didn't go through until Tuesday.

I don't think that's very long to process a request.

Thats ok, I suppose. In a perfect world, would be instant.

Yeah difference between a game with 11 million users and 500K users. Yeah but I do get your piont WOW does spoil users with what they cant expect. In fact I would go so far as to WOW has kinda spoiled the MOM market as well as driving it forward.

And yeah when your having fun with a toon you do kinda get pissed off that you cant play it. But saying that Turbines/Codemasters customers services is very good but I do feel your pain. And yeah WAR I hope it is good as I do think that it will take me away for a while as while but its time like that Im glad I have a life time sub.

I dunno. I think you have to realize what kind companies that you're comparing. First there's Blizzard, who's a long standing member in the video game market and has refined the MMORPG experience into more of a Disneyland theme park. They have a lot of employees and can address almost every situation almost immediately.

Turbine, a relatively new company especially to the MMO genre, isn't as refined and probably doesn't get too many requests for character transfers.

I dunno. It might not be as easy as you think either.

Turbine does indeed to character moves by hand. They have said so on their forms for DDO. Why... a good question.
