GAX Online - The Xbox Playstation Wii MMORPG PC Social Network

A few years ago I got an iBook G4. Back then I used it for video editing, since my computer just wasn't equipped for it, though now I've got a computer which far surpasses the specs of my iBook. So yesterday I was wondering what exactly I could do with it.

At the moment I just use it to go on GAX chat and MSN while gaming, but I just feel like that's a complete waste of what was £699. Being a gamer, my mind first turned to gaming. Wouldn't it be cool to carry around my favorite games with me everywhere I go? So I started browsing the internet for games.

Now I was very happy when I discovered that both CnC3 and Civ 4 were available on Mac, since these are two of my favorite games ever. Then I looked at the minimum specs. Basically my iBook is terrible. It only has a 30gb hard drive. It can't play Civ 4 or CnC3 nor any game from the last five years apparently.

This is the part where I beg for your help. Basically I want some recommendations for mac games that are pretty old, perhaps some classics that I missed. Basically anything that's in a bargain bin would be fine.

If you can run Os9 programs in it, then may I reccomend some of the gems that got me through about two years of mac gaming.

Uplink, great hacking game, though often buggy.
Ares, an interesting space action rts.
Cythera, you fall asleep on a dark an stormy night and awaken in Cythera to help a king of failing health deal with the intrigue infecting his kingdom. Generic story, but a world that begs to be explored.
Escape Velocity, 2d elite, make your fortune fighting or trading while exploring the plot lines that twist and turn through the galaxy. Then go online and find yourself some of the really good plug-ins, I still remember Heart of Orion...
Escape Velocity: Override, like EV, with a slightly different graphics engine, and a different base galaxy to explore. Watch out for Captain Hector, though. The lovable chap who just dropped in to remind you to buy EV feels that some just reward is due, play past the registration date and he may be forced to steal a small amount of money from you every once in a while.

But it's all shareware, so go ahead and dl it, play for a while and see if you think it's fun. If it is then buy it and enjoy it fully.

Have you played the Myth series by Bungie (back before they were acquired by Microsoft)

The original Myth was developed 10 years ago, so the graphics won't be stellar by todays standards, but I thought they did an outstanding job with the storyline and drawing you into the game.

I don't think you need to go THAT far back in time.... but while we are there, Baldur's Gate 2 isn't too shabby!

Have you played Gish? (http://www.chroniclogic.com/index.htm?gish.htm) It is somewhat recent, but there is a free demo if you'd like to be able to test whether or not it would work. It's a really fun game. Triptych is another good one made by the same company.

I have used macs for a while including the ibook G4, macbook pro, PPC mac mini and core duo imac. I can honestly say - macs are good in some ways but one of them isn't gaming. I switched to PC for gaming and would never even think of using a mac now.
