Looks like everyone’s favorite MMO (I kid I kid) is going to now be expanding into the miniature gaming arena according to this Upper Deck website. Direct from the site about the game:

“Each pre-painted miniature will be mounted on a uniquely engineered base, allowing it to serve both as a game piece and a collectible. In the spirit of the action and adventure of Blizzard's MMO, the Miniatures Game will feature standalone raid and dungeon scenarios, letting players play cooperatively against other players or fully automated dungeons.”

Sounds interesting, but also sounds like something games like Descent and Dungeon Twister have been doing for years already. It is a shame that because of the name attached to it this game will probably get more press than a fine game like Descent, but it remains to be seen if it is actually better. You can bet if Upper Deck is involved it will be a min max type of game like many Wizards of the Coast products like Dreamblade and some others turned out to be.

While the WoW card game is not that bad, I will have to reserve judgment on this game since it is a collectibles game and not something like Descent. I would have been more excited if it had been something like HeroQuest and I didn’t have to open booster packs.

Yeah you can tell Warcraft Starcarft are homages to Games workshop games. They just tweaked them enough to stop them selves getting there arse sued to hell and back.

I DO like the fact you can play this solo against an automated dungeon, that peaks my interest a bit

I'm stoked for this game too. Used to love playing Mage Knight Dungeons a few years back, which leads me to hope there'll be similar dungeoney mechanics involved.

The figures are at 40mm scale, which instantly makes them incompatible with about 99% of most people's collections. I'll be grabbing several boxes.
